State College Wins Bid to Host International Fly Fishing Championship

The Central PA Convention & Visitors Bureau is excited to announce the State College Area will host the 6th Annual FIPS-Mouche World Youth Fly Fishing Championship. It is a great honor for Centre County and Pennsylvania to be selected; it is the first time the championship will be held in the United States. In previous years, championships have been held in Portugal, Spain, the Czech Republic and other locations around the world. Hosting this event is a stepping stone towards the CPCVB submitting a bid on the larger senior event in the future. FIPS-Mouche is the fly fishing arm of CIPS, the World regulating body for competitive fishing.

The event is set for August 3rd through the 10th, 2007; the championship will take place August 7th through the 9th in four locations: Spring Creek, Little Juniata River, Fishing Creek and Lake Perez. Teams from around the world, with competitors aged 13 to 18, will be competing, including a team from the United States. The event will also include a processional, a conservation symposium and conclude with an Olympic style awards ceremony.

“Pennsylvania and Centre County in particular, have a long history of providing superb outdoor recreational activities and fishing has certainly been at the forefront. We are thrilled the area is hosting such a prestigious event,” says Joe Humphreys and John Ford, Co-Chairmen of the Organizing Committee that will oversee the championship.

TCO State College and TCO Spruce Creek Fly Company are proud sponsors, other sponsorship opportunities are available. Please contact Betsey Howell, Executive Director of the Central PA Convention & Visitors Bureau at 814-231-1401 for details.
